Educational Visits

Due to his experience of working in schools as a youth worker, Nathan has over a decade of delivering issue-based talks, workshops, PSHE and projects in school.

From a literacy and creative writing point of view there are two main themes that can be offered:

  • Narrative Writing
  • Poetry

These themes are broad and sessions can be developed based on required outcomes. For example, a KS4 year group looking to sharpen up on their story writing ahead of exam season, or a KS2 year group simply looking for inspiration and confidence to engage with stories and poems.

Nathan can also offer workshops in schools around public speaking and confidence, mental health and well-being.

“Nathan Parker visited our school to work with some of our most underperforming pupils, in terms of their attainment in narrative writing. From the first word he said, he had them hooked. He encouraged all the pupils to make links to their own lives when thinking of setting and characters and modelled how he had done this effectively in his own published book by sharing with them some gripping extracts. This simple, yet clever approach meant that some of the pupils produced some of the most authentic narrative writing I have ever read from them. Whilst they were writing, he also circulated the room giving every pupil some personalised advice and feedback, which they acted upon to make improvements to their work. Nathan is incredibly relatable; he is open, honest and has a brilliant manner with the pupils. For these reasons, our youngsters wanted to impress him, with some of them even choosing to come back at lunch time to carry on working with him! All the English teachers here at Millfield agree that he had a positive impact on the work of our youngsters, and we look forward to working with him again in the future.”

“Nathan delivered an outstanding, interactive poetry session over zoom for our Key Stage 4 students as part of our World Poetry Day celebrations. The session was engaging, interesting and interactive which enabled all students with varying levels of special educational needs to participate. Nathan's positive and friendly approach provided the students with the confidence and courage to share their ideas within the session and create meaningful poems that they enjoyed sharing with their peers. The students spoke very highly of Nathan both during and after the session and requested if they could meet with him again to create more poems. We would highly recommend attending Nathan's sessions to support the teaching and learning of poetry!”

Head of KS4, Abbot’s Lea School

“We approached Nathan to perform at our annual Christmas event, after a tough year and battling through the pandemic we wanted to give something to our Staff as a thank you for all their effort and commitment, we wanted something out of the ordinary and that would last long in the memory. Nathan put together two poems based on the short conversations I and some senior staff had have with him, one about the company’s history and one as a thank you for all the efforts in 2021, we were amazed how good it was after the first draft and only made a couple of minor changes ahead of the event. Nathan then performed these pieces amazingly well and was the standout memory of an exceptional annual event and probably my favourite act out of the 13 years doing these events We’ve had many celebrities and TV rated comedians in the past, but this was special and bespoke. Nathan is Easy to work with, amazing at what he does and a top bloke. If anyone is looking to give their staff a special thank you or just some top-class entertainment at a corporate or work event I would look no further.”

“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Nathan. Not only is he a talented wordsmith he is superb with people. He has guided the vulnerable young people that access Streetlife through a creative process with complete integrity. He has been able to develop an atmosphere whereby the young people felt safe, valued and heard. Nathan then helped them to capture their experiences in the written word. Consent was imperative and Nathan ensured that the young people were fully on board with sharing their personal memories. We plan to continue working with Nathan on some new projects and would not hesitate to recommend him.”
